Evidence-based guidelines on the therapeutic use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS): An update (2014–2018)

This article contains an updated review of the published literature on rTMS. The authors provide updated recommendations and guidelines for the therapeutic efficacy of the treatment on the current range of neurological and psychiatric conditions targeted by rTMS. This includes a review of publications from 2014-2018, to account for recent studies published after the release of the previous guidelines in 2014. The guidelines and recommendations have been determined via a consensus from a group of European experts in the field.

This comprehensive report considers the current literature on rTMS for conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, pain, tinnitus, schizophrenia, addiction, movement disorders, stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease, among others. Recommendations also consider protocol types and brain regions targeted for the best possible outcomes.
